Dr. Andrew Ng, Chairman and Co-Founder

Andrew Ng co-founded Coursera in 2012 with Daphne Koller and served as Co-CEO until 2014. He currently serves as Chairman of the Coursera Board and is a leading voice in artificial intelligence (AI) and online education. Dr. Ng was the founding lead of the Google Brain deep learning project and later served as Chief Scientist at Baidu, where he led the company’s global AI strategy and infrastructure. He is also an adjunct professor at Stanford University, where he has taught in the computer science department for over two decades. In 2011, Dr. Ng led the development of Stanford’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform and launched an online machine learning class that reached over 100,000 students—an initiative that inspired the creation of Coursera. He is the Managing General Partner of AI Fund, a venture studio supporting entrepreneurs in building AI companies, and leads DeepLearning.AI, an education technology company focused on AI training. In 2024, he joined Amazon’s Board of Directors. Dr. Ng has authored or co-authored over 200 research papers in machine learning, robotics, and related fields. In 2013, he was named to the Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people. He holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, and the University of California, Berkeley.
