Dr. Andrew Ng, Chairman

Dr. Andrew Ng co-founded Coursera in 2012, served as the company’s Co-CEO until 2014, and is currently the Co-Chair of the Coursera Board. He is the former Chief Scientist at Baidu, a Chinese language search engine, where he was responsible for driving the company's global AI strategy and infrastructure. Andrew is also an adjunct professor and tenured faculty member at Stanford University, where he also served as Director of the Stanford AI Lab. Andrew currently serves as CEO of Landing.AI, which provides AI training. Previously, he was the founding lead of the Google Brain deep learning project. Andrew holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Carmen Chang, Director

Carmen Chang is a General Partner and Head of Asia at NEA. Carmen joined the firm in 2012 and in addition to her work with U.S. technology investments, she is focused on building NEA's global organization and portfolio in China and other emerging markets in Asia. Carmen serves on the board of directors for several NEA portfolio companies. Prior to joining NEA, Carmen had a storied career as a Silicon Valley corporate and securities lawyer leading her firm’s China practice. She holds a JD from Stanford Law School.

Amanda Clark, Director

Amanda Clark is the Chief International and Development Officer of Papa John’s International. Before Papa John’s, Amanda held leadership roles at Taco Bell, where she was responsible for design, consumer-facing technology, merchandising, customer marketing, new concepts, and company development. Prior, Amanda held various marketing positions at Procter and Gamble, where she worked on household brands like Olay, Pampers, and Oral-B. She is a proud alumna of Yale University, where she earned a double major in psychology and theater studies.

Jeff Maggioncalda, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director

Jeff Maggioncalda joined Coursera as CEO in June 2017 and since then helped the company grow to over 100 million learners and 7,000+ institutions, with high-quality learning content from 250+ of the world’s leading universities and industry educators. He previously served for 18 years as the founding CEO at Financial Engines Inc., which provides online investment advice that helps people save and prepare for retirement. He currently serves as a director of Silicon Valley Bank. Jeff holds an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and English from Stanford University.

Chris McCarthy, Director

Chris McCarthy is the President and CEO of Paramount/Showtime Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios. Since joining the company in 2004 as a freelancer, Chris has grown to oversee a global network of media assets that reach over 1 billion people in more than 180 countries, including brands such as Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and Smithsonian Channel. Chris earned an MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University.

Dr. Ted Mitchell, Director

Dr. Ted Mitchell currently serves as president of the American Council on Education (ACE), whose mission is to shape effective public policy and foster innovative, high-quality practice. Previously, Ted served as the U.S. undersecretary of education under President Obama, where he was responsible for all postsecondary and adult educational policy programs. Before joining the Obama administration, Ted was CEO of the NewSchools Venture Fund, a national investor in education technology. Before that, he served as President of the California State Board of Education, President of Occidental College, and held a variety of leadership roles at UCLA, including Vice Chancellor. Dr. Mitchell began his career as a professor at Dartmouth College, where he also served as Chair of the Department of Education. Ted holds a B.A. and Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University.

Scott Sandell, Director

Scott Sandell is the Managing General Partner of NEA. Since joining the firm in 1996, Scott has held many leadership positions and served as head of the firm’s technology investing practice. Scott is currently the lead independent director of Cloudflare and a director of Robinhood Market, Inc. and Tuya Inc., as well as a number of private companies. Previously, he has served on the board of Bloom Energy, Fusion-io, Tableau, Workday, and Spreadtrum Communications. Scott holds an MBA from Stanford and an AB in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College.

Sabrina Simmons, Director and Chair of the Audit Committee

Sabrina brings more than 20 years of global leadership experience, most recently serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Gap Inc. Before joining Gap, Sabrina was Chief Financial Officer and an executive member of the board of directors of Sygen International PLC, a British genetics company, and Assistant Treasurer at Levi Strauss & Cto. Currently, Sabrina also serves on the boards of directors for Columbia Sportswear Company and Petco Health & Wellness. Sabrina previously served on the board of directors of Williams-Sonoma Inc. and e.l.f. Beauty Inc. Sabrina earned her bachelor’s degree at Berkeley and an MBA from UCLA.
